Mr. Rippell has a varied criminal defence practice. He has acted as counsel in cases dealing with offences including simple drug possession, major fraud, criminal harassment, environmental contamination, sexual assault and first degree murder. He has a particular interest in drug related offences and defending against illegal police searches.
He holds a First Class Honours B.A. in History and Political Science from McGill University, and J.D. from the University of Toronto. A passionate defender of individual rights, he was seconded to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association during his articles.
Mr. Rippell has worked closely with many of Toronto's best criminal lawyers. He was a partner at Pinkofskys, Canada’s largest criminal defence firm, for several years before establishing his own criminal law firm. While at Pinkofskys the senior partner was named by the National Post on its list of "Best Lawyers: Criminal Defence."
He is a member of the Criminal Lawyers Association, and Legal Aid Ontario’s “Extremely Serious Criminal Matters” panel. This designation allows him to act as counsel on Extremely Serious Criminal Matters funded by Legal Aid, defined as “youth or adult trials, appeals or extraditions of:
· All murder charges;
· All dangerous offender applications;
· All charges with a mandatory minimum penitentiary sentence of 4 years or more;
· Charges contained in Criminal Code sections 83.2 to 83.22 related to terrorism.”
